Doing Business Under a Fictitious Name

In the state of New Jersey when a corporation or LLC is formed, state law allows the business to operate in the name of the organization. For various business reasons, some corporations and LLCs find it necessary to do business under a fictitious name frequently identified as "DBA" - (Doing Business As). In that situation, it has always been necessary to register the fictitious name before commencing to do business under that name.

Please keep in mind that sole proprietorships and partnerships (other than LLCs) are not affected by this procedure. These entities need only register once in the county in which they operate.
